    The Gorn

So, spoiler-time for anyone who's not been following E3 coverage, but the Gorn will apparently now be the villains in the game. Personally, I'm all for this - despite having only appeared in one episode each of two different Trek shows (three if you count the Animated Series), the Gorn were always portrayed as a major spacefaring power, yet we've never been afforded a significant look at their culture. There've been a very few comics and novels (Typhon Pact: Seize the Fire, Alien Spotlight: Gorn, and TNG: The Gorn Crisis) that focused on the Gorn, although they've given us our best looks thus far at a mostly mysterious race.

Only time will tell how closely the Gorn of the JJ-verse will match up with what we already know, although early indications seem to point to "not very much", based on this quote from the most recent press release for the game - "a true military dictatorship, [...] made up of billions of self-sacrificing warriors across thousands of colonies, each focused on the conquest of alien races. By utilizing their chaos-causing infectious venom, the Gorn seed mayhem and destruction as they destroy populations and deplete planets of their resources."

Additionally, its been revealed that there will be a minimum of three "classes" of Gorn players will face in the game - Rushers, Warriors, and Brutes, and that the females of the species will be able to climb walls. The "chaos-causing infectious venom" will also likely be a featured gameplay mechanic.

The visual look of the Gorn seems to be (from the single screenshot we have thus far - hopefully by the end of E3, we'll get a better look) in line with the heavily-altered Gorn cut out of the 09 film (Picture).

More on this as it becomes available.

I'm really glad that they chose the Gorn. They've been virtually ignored in the Trek lore. The only canon appearances are in "The Arena", "In a Mirror Darkly", and Star Trek Online. And I dunno about you guys, but what I've gotten from the mentions of the Gorn, the idea that they're a military dictatorship race bent on conquest makes sense.

Well, actually, STO isn't canon at all - or at least no more than the novelverse, which is much more fleshed out.

Personally, I like what The Gorn Crisis graphic novel did with them, separating them out into a Warrior Caste, a Political Caste, and presumably other, unseen castes. No fully-realized society should ever be based around a single defining characteristic - that's what makes post-TOS Klingons so compelling.

Can't wait to see the Gorn in action in this game. I've always thought the Gorn had so much potential for the show and am still disappointed at how little screen time they've gotten (Tholians, too).

I love that the Gorn will be featured so prominently. It's got me mega-hyped. I was already interested before, but now...

I can appreciate making the Gorn more agile and animistic for the Abramsverse, but I hope they don't lean too far in that direction.

Obviously a little diffrent than the Gorn Cpatain that I know and love.

This Gorn symbol was posted some twitter account, hasn't been getting a lot of press.

Are any of them going to wear clothes or preferably some kind of armor? Will they carry phasers and other technology?
What the hell happened to the signature tools?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! And my custom profile!?!?!?!?

Yes, watch the demo video, the Gorn are carrying guns. Kirk and Spock even commandeer a pair.

And they also say that there are multiple varieties of Gorn.

I think the gorn look quite intimidating and ominous, I read that there may be an appearance of a type of gorn that looks like the "Arena" episode gorn captain. Cant wait to vaporize every gorn I see!

The new version is much more vicious looking and acting. You must remember the ones shown so far are soldiers or sorts. The captain, which is what the TOS version was, has not been shown. Not sure if it is in the game or not.

Cheesy or not I like both the TOS version and the reimagined version.
